What is the most effective & safe diet pill that can be purchased over the counter?

I haven’t bought diet pills in 20+ years! My best friend and my mom want to lose weight and need advice on what to try. I am afraid of diet pills personally so I don’t really suggest them but if they are going to use them what is safest with the best results?
