I’ve hit a weight loss “plateau”. WANT to lose 10 more lbs in a month, what more to do?
Question by Tulip: I’ve hit a weight loss “plateau”. WANT to lose 10 more lbs in a month, what more to do?
I’ve lost 10lbs easily in 1 month with a good diet and little to no exercise. This time I added exercised to my diet and I can’t seem to lose anymore weight. Yes I understand that I may be building muscle mass, but there has to be some other way where I can get out of this plateau and lose a little more weight within a month. I lost 10lbs in April, stopped my diet for a month, and started it back in June. I’ve gained 2lbs, which I’m not worried about, yet it’s been over a month since I started exercising while back on my healthy diet as I was in April and the weight just wont budge.
I’m 5′6, 135lb, my BMI is normal. If you wouldn’t tell great looking people at the gym to stop working out because they look healthy already and are fit, then please by all means do not tell me this nor tell me that I am obsessed with my weight.
I have increased my jog from 2 miles to 5 miles (3 during my lunch hour at work and 2 when I get home after work) I lift weights every other day.
My diet includes lots of water, fruits, veggies, fiber, protein (whey protein also)
What else to do?!?!

What do you think? Answer below!
I am not a Nutritionist, but I have been through a lot of yo-yo diets and I once was 310lbs. My menu when on Plateau:
Morning-7 egg whites and a whole wheat bread
Snack-Anything Protein. ei, non fat milk, cheese, protein shake, etc
Lunch-white fish, 1 cup of green vegetable and 1 cup of lettuce. and have a grate fruit.
Snack-Anything Protein
Dinner-Repeat Lunch.
If you do this for a week I guaranteed you will loose at least five pounds. I did this while on Lindora Program. That has been my secret for loosing more than 100lbs. and still loosing.
Your doing great so far. I guess what you need is a little more workout variations, like jumprope, youll lose up to 1,000 calories in 10 min. Lets see strenght training, you will build muscle and gain some weight by that but as you keep going you will lose fat and thats when you start dropping the pounds. Take up your water in take like 3 gallons a day. I once went in a serious diet which i called the yogurt diet, lol. I nly done it once and lost 7 pounds in a week and i know it was fat i lost since i got a flat belly. Before anything I got up at 7:00 am every morning and put a video workout for 30 minutes to get me warmed up, then i would run out the door and go jogging for 40 minutes, I then let myself cool down as I got home. I was living with my sister and she only bought low fat yoplait yogurt, bran cereal, vegtables, skim milk, eggs, fruit like apples and green grapes so that was the only thing i ate during my vacation with my sis. When I got home I would drink a glass of water then I would prepare myself a bowl of cereal and a light yogurt. 3 hours later I ate another yogurt, then, then another 3 hours it was my lunch, which i ate a yoplait light yogurt, salad which contained 3 boiled egg whites, diced tomato, diced onion, and some tuna, which made two serving, i saved the other half for dinner. The 3 hours came again and i ate a yogurt and an hour before dinner i went to and hour jogging, then came home and ate my dinner with a yogurt. I pretty much did this daily during my week vacation with my sis and got to where i wanted, because it was strict and i did not have any temptation at home or money to buy some junkfood. GOOd luck and you go girl. ^_^
Though I would never discourage someone from exercising just because they are at a healthy weight, it’s really funny how our bodies work.
You have done all the right things: eating healthy, increased intensity, increased strength training. All of the good things to do when we are in a plateau. Though this may sound a little crazy, maybe you aren’t in a plateau at all.
Because your BMI is normal, I would have no reason to think that you have a disorder or problem that would prevent you from losing weight. And actually, when people lead healthy lifestyles, it has been found that the body can be stubborn about losing more weight. The thought is that it simply won’t, because it doesn’t need to.
I completely understand your frustration and applaude that you’ve kept it up over this month. I suggest you reevaluate you decision to lose weight and maybe meet with a dietician, exercise physiologist, or weight-loss specialist. And maybe pick a new goal, like decrease your body fat percentage, that would meet your fitness needs. Though the scale never lies, it can keep you in the dark. Muscle (lean body mass) weighs approximately 75 percent more than fat. In other words, you can increase your actual body weight without increasing your body fat. You can even increase your body weight and at the same time decrease your percentage of body fat, which may be exactly what’s going on here.
You can buy a body-fat monitoring scale (Tanita is one of them), or someone at the local gym can find out through a “pinch-test”, formally called skinfold calipers. That test is based on the relationship between skin density in selected places to body fat.
A specialist could go in depth with you about this, and I think it would provide more satisfaction and accomplishment if you took on this goal instead of a 10 pound lighter you. Essentially, those 10 pounds could be everything but body fat if you go too far.
Good luck.

The best way to lose weight is doing exercise.
The best type of exercise for weight loss is something you ENJOY DOING and are likely to continue doing – not just while losing weight but also as you maintain weight in the long term.
Your initial fitness goal should be to do 30 minutes of exercise each day. Thereafter, gradually increase this (ideally) to about 60 minutes of exercise per day.
The best combination of exercise is a mixture of aerobic and weight/strength training (and stretching). Aerobic and weight/strength training exercises both assist weight loss but in different ways.
