I recently started eating the South Beach Diet Whole Grain Crunch cereal and I absolutely love it! However, recently, I read the ingredients label and noticed that it had sucralose as its sweetener. I know that the FDA has decided that it is safe, but I don’t know…something tells me that it’s really not. I’d like to continue to eat this cereal but with the thought of it being sweetened with an artificial sweetener nagging in my mind, I don’t know if I can enjoy it anymore. Should I stop worrying and go ahead and eat it?

It’s always a bit iffy with the FDA, isn’t it? One minute it’s the best thing ever, the next minute it will kill you, your un-born children and your dog. I think it might be safest to try to stick with eating things that are as un-processed as possible…but it’s also unhealthy to obsess over it. We just have to do the best we can and get on with it.

Animal testing shows that it is only toxic at extremely high doses. (5000 packets per day.) Your call.

Many studies have shown that splenda is safe, but it is also a relatively new artificial sweetener. Of the artificial sweeteners available, I always choose Splenda because it is made from sugar and I think it has a better taste. Experts seem to go back and forth on whether or not the various artificial sweeteners have a longterm negative affect, but nothing has been proven either way. One thing is for sure, they are not natural food products, but these days, what is natural?

Until there is evidence to the contrary, it’s safe. (Bah, Ba, Bah, Ba insert theme from Jaws here )

Here’s what I have been able to find out about sucralose:

It was being used in Canada for more than 20 years prior to the FDA’s approval of it in the US, with no ill effects.

It is indeed made from sugar, but the substance they use that makes it calorie-free and not affect your blood sugar is chlorine. Chlorine does not wash out of your body like saccharin does, so they can’t really say what the long-term effects will be. We only have Canada’s experience to go by. But I did meet a chemistry student recently who refuses to consume sucralose because of the chlorine connection.

Do not use Splenda or Aspartame. Splenda and Aspartame are not good for you. They damage your organs, can cause seizures, severe headaches, etc…Since your body doesn’t know what to do with Splenda or Aspartame, the molecular structure ends up turning into something similar to DDT. :|

Do you know how Splenda is made? It’s made by soaking granulated sugar in bleach molecules. Now how “healthy” is that? Do you want another suprise? Splenda is manufactured by Johnson and Johnson.

Aspartame was discovered by accident in a chemists lab. I am not sure of how Splenda was discovered, however they are both chemicals not found in nature. They are not food substances and never were supposed to be put in foods. Aspartame was discovered by accident when the guy’s boss asked a young scientist to test this substance. The scientist thought the guy said “taste” this substance. They discovered it was sweet and went from there. Aspartame and Splenda have both been shown to cause brain cancer over time, or cause the brain to have other problems over time.

As for sodas in general, they destroy tooth enamel and promote tooth decay

If you want a delicious diet drink, just make them at home yourself with a juice extractor and blender. If you want to sweeten something, use juice from a freshly crushed apple or a little bit of honey.

You may be asking yourself why this stuff gets to market if it’s bad for us. Simple, the FDA doesn’t work for your or I, It works for the corporations with the big bucks (billions of dollars) I know it’s sad, but it’s true…

There are people in our government who are literally on the payroll of pharmaceutical companies…..disgusting. You can do a search right now for 60 minutes videos on cbsnews.com or google or youtube to find out more about this information. Please check out the link I mention below too

some say yes and some say no, I use a sweetener that is made from fruits. I am doing research to really find out how safe the Splenda is. When it comes down to it , you have to be the one to call it, do what you feel will be best for you, take care.
