I don’t know of anyone who has been pregnant or conceived a child while being a vegetarian, as of now Im a vegetarian and In the future hope to have kids. Was just curious on the subject. Thought maybe you would need to get more energy/vitamins/nutrients from other foods other than what a vegetarian diet consists of since you’ll be carrying a child

There are entire vegetarian societies that manage to procreate and continue the society, so of course you can be pregnant and be a vegetarian. As with all vegetarians, all omnivores, and all pregnant women, you need to eat a variety of foods that will provide a broad range of nutrients. Pre-natal vitamins are commonly used, whether vegetarian or not. Assuming that you already eat a healthy diet, with enough protein, vitamins, minerals, calcium and iron, the pregnancy shouldn’t make any more of a difference than it would on an omnivorous diet.

I have two aunts that both had two babies while being vegetarians. It’s totally safe. Just make sure you get the right nutrition, just like anyone else that is having a baby should get.

Vegetarians have children all the time. A friend of my sons had a child last year. She had to be careful to get enough calcium and protein. Baby’s fine!

Of course it’s possible. Just like omnivores, you do need to pay a little bit of extra attention to make sure you’re getting enough nutrients, but as you know, meat is not an essential nutrient. Billions of Hindi and Buddhist vegetarians have had totally safe and successful pregnancies with healthy and happy babies over the years.

You don’t have to worry at all! Just ask your doctor about what extra nutrients you need and be sure that you’re getting them.

Yes it is. If you are worried consult a doctor

A vegetarian diet while pregnant is a sound vegetarian diet + 500 extra daily calories coming from, yep, good sources.

Please keep in mind that many cultures have vegetarian roots and, as it stands, India and China, the two biggest nations on the planet, have huge vegetarian populations and they’re able to produce healthy, happy children just fine.
