Diabetic food that you can eat is not much different than the kind of normal, pyramid shaped nutrition diet that many people maintain on a daily basis.

Look at the "pyramid shaped nutrition diet" image on the site and choose among any veggie meal.

A diabetes diet meal plan doesn't have to be bland or boring.

Although diabetics can have any fruit, but they should preferably avoid mango, custard apple, grapes, chikoo, bananas as they have a high sugar content.

There are three fruits in particular that are especially beneficial for diabetic patients - apple, grapefruit and jambul (jamun).

Fruits and veggies are low in carbs, I believe. The vegan diet is the healthiest in the world, and many scientists attribute problems such as diabetes to the American lifestyle, which is heavy on meat and dairy.

It is important to monitor the starches that one would intake on a diabetic diet. Some meat alternatives bring more starch to the party that you'd think, so one must always read labels.

A balance vegan/vegetarian diet is just as good as a balance diet that has some meat in it. In this case you have to control the amount of carbohydrates there are in your diet. Unforntally to the dislikes of many veg*ns on here there are more sources of carbohydrates in veg*n sources than in meat sources, not that I'm saying that you should not become a veg*n.

A diabetic can be a vegetarian safely, but it takes extensive planning, separating out the good from the bad carbs, etc. You don't have to eat much bread and such, and the carbs in fruits are ok.

I think it would be a really big effort to be a vegan. Not sure if it could really be done.

If you or someone you know is diabetic and wants to become a vegetarian, you should consult a nutritionist to come up with a very specific diet plan.

you can be vegan or vegetarian and still eat junk like cookies, cake, ice cream, and sugary soft drinks. So it depends on your current lifestyle

Yes.

The idea that carbs are bad for a diabetic is outdated. A diabetic can, and SHOULD, eat carbohydrates as part of a balanced diet. The key is in choosing the right type of carbs that have a low glycemix index.

Furthermore, fat and protein are not harmless. Although they may not directly and immediately raise blood sugar levels, they have deleterious effects, particularly in causing insulin resistance. Fat makes the body's cells less sensitive to insulin.
As you probably know, diabetics have at least some level of impaired kidney function (even if it has no symptoms). Too much protein + impaired kidneys = VERY BAD IDEA

So, cutting out animal fat and excessive protein is actually beneficial to a diabetic, even more so than to a normal person.

Yes.

A diabetic friend of mine went lacto-ovo and within a short period of time got to cut back his insulin by quite a bit.
