I recently developed a huge liking towards lemon and pure lemon juice.
I started eating and drinking it due to lack of vitamin C in my diet, but I just LOVE the sour sweetness of lemons!

I drink half a lemon (juice of course) with a cup of water during breakfast and dinner. Is this safe?
What if I up’ed it and drank a lemon + 2 cups of water for breakfast and dinner?

What’s a “safe” limit? Thanks! :]

I’m no expert, but I would think you should be careful not to drink too much, because the acid can hurt the lining of your stomach. I just don’t know waht the exact amout would be though, sorry.

  4. lahla says:

A safe limit would be drinking it once or twice a week. It’s not too good if you get too much acid into your stomach. Be careful.

  5. Sasha says:

Their should be a limit to everything, your body only needs so much of Vitamin C. I would cut down if i were you:) Is that all you have for breakfast, and dinner?

Lemons are a citrus fruit just like oranges so i wouldent see any problem with a bunch a day
the European sailors used to eat alot of lemons and limes when sailing so they could stay healthy

I would not worry too much about taking in too uch Vit C. Any excess Vit C your body takes in, get taken out in your urine. you should be safe with the levels you are talking about

i wouldn’t go crazy, if the acid in ur stomach is too high u could get a hole in it and have serious bleeding. <33333as long as there is water it shouldnt be harmful

Lemon is acidic, it is safe for you to have 5 times more than you are having now without problems.

You might want to add more “base” items so you are not eating too much acidic foods.

It is very safe as long as your stomach can take it. At sea, sailors would eat a lime or lemon a day to keep from getting scurvy. Ergo the negative term “Limies” when refering to the English because they were the first to practice it. Anyway, you will be AOK, just keep mixing it with water to avoid upsetting your tummy.

Let’s look at your underlying premise.

Where did you get the idea that lemons are bad for you?

i luv lemons. my friends think im weird bc ijust get a lemon wedge and put it in my mouth and only eat that. gahhh i luv ‘em. well i dont think eating that much lemon is good at all. you should only have a limited amount of lemon every once in a while. ive been trying to limit my “lemon intake” lol :)

it’s like your having lemonade all the time, and i never heard of lemonade being dangerous!… I have heard that all the acid can wear away the enamel on your teeth though, So be careful with that….

  17. Mikey says:

There isn’t an unhealthy amount of lemon consumption unless you start to get heartburn from all of the citric acid. If you start feeling pain in your esophagus then limit the amount of lemon you intake.

i used to love lemons and salt and my doctor right then and there said its not good for me, but when i asked of lemon juice, he said its way better then soda, and i dont drink soda, i say its all right, and my doctor never said i have to have a limit, i drank it for a month, i would drink lemon juice and water, thats all i would drink, but after a month got bored of it, so i gave it up, I’m sure its okay

  19. Madison B says:

Lemon is good for you so have as much as you want but do not get oo much because somethimes if there is too much there is too much acid

As long as ur not living on lemon for breakfast/lunch and dinner u should be fine….lemon is grt for skin!!
U need to consider that since lemon acts as a alkaline u need to keep ur acid and alkaline balance..
Apart from being an amazing body alkaline, lemon water also gives the following health benefits:

    1)Lemons are antiseptic
2)Lemon water has excellent digestive properties and can ease heartburn, bloating and other digestion problems
3)Lemon water cleanses and stimulates the liver and kidneys
4)Lemon juice contains calcium, magnesium and potassium
5)Lemon juice has been known to relieve asthma
6)Lemon water (hot) offers relief from cold and flu symptoms while providing some much needed Vitamin C
7)Lemon juice is a great skin cleanser
Tthere is no such ‘safe’ limit for it..its not alcohol remember!!…but to comsume vitamin c ….lemon is not the only source..there are plenty of other fruit and veg to gain that..!
    hope this helps!
