It is very simple to follow a healthy diet but with limited healthy diet information, a diet as simple as ABC becomes as complicated as a very technical science project. Actually, a healthy diet simply involves eating more vegetables, fruits, cereals, bread, potatoes, and pasta. If you want to equip yourself with healthy diet information, you’ve come to the right page because this article will allow you to do so.
The basic food groups are perhaps one of the most significant healthy diet information anyone who want to become healthier should know. The basic food group is classified into five and a healthy diet requires that you pick at least 1 food from each food group eaten in moderate amounts. Here are some other things you need to know about these food groups.
1. Starchy Foods
Starchy foods are a great source of carbohydrates and fiber. Included in this food group are cereals, noodles, rice, pasta, potatoes, and bread. Since this food group is an excellent source of carbs and fiber, it is very important to include them in our daily meal. Aside from fiber and carbs, this food group is also known as an excellent source vitamin B complex.

2. Fruits and vegetables
Mother Nature has endowed us with a large variety of fruits and vegetables, and this in one thing to be grateful for because foods under this food group are rich in vitamins, fibers, minerals, and enzymes, well known for a big number of health benefits. Vegetables, especially those green leafy ones are rich in iron while fruits, especially those under the citrus variety are rich in calcium and vitamin C. RDA for foods from this group is around 5 or more servings a day.
3. Milk and dairy products
This food group includes yogurt, butter, cream, cheese, milk, and yoghurt. Foods from this group are great source of proteins and calcium. Dairy products are also an excellent source of vitamins A, B, and D. Calcium is responsible for healthy bones while vitamin D is necessary for bone building and maintenance. Milk products on the other hand are rich in fats which are known for building up the body and providing energy.
4. Meat, fish, and poultry group
According to different healthy diet information, this food group is a very important source of iron, zinc, vitamin B, and protein – all nutrients needed for body growth and repair. However, you should not forget that foods from this food group must be eaten in correct proportion. Meats must be of leaner cuts and all visible fats must be removed to ensure a really healthy body. 2 servings a day of foods from this food group are said to be a healthy practice.
5. Foods with fats and sugars
A lot of people, especially those who are on diet, often neglect this food group but actually, foods from this food group are excellent sources of energy needed by the body. This food group includes foods such as margarine, butter, ice cream, cream, cooking oils, low-fat spreads, salad dressings, mayonnaise, chocolate, biscuits, cakes, pastry foods, sweets, and crisps. However, all these foods must be eaten is moderate amounts only.
With enough healthy diet information, there is no doubt that you can be healthier and fitter. You can take advantage of different information but make sure that these pieces of information are accurate.
